Personal Injury
If you are hurt or someone you know dies as a result of an accident of any type, you may need an attorney. You absolutely should talk to an attorney if you have any question regarding your accident and possible legal needs, and it should not cost a dime for you to do so. The attorney you consult should, at a minimum, be very experienced with personal injury cases and highly respected by other attorneys and Judges.
Family Law
"Family Law" refers to a variety of case types. We primarily handle divorce, custody and placement, support, and paternity cases. For 14 years, Ann Davies has practiced almost exclusively in these areas.
Civil Litigation
Jim Carney and Ann Davies have handled hundreds of civil litigation cases. Civil litigation is roughly defined as any court matter other than criminal cases. Their combined civil trial experience is extensive and has ranged from local circuit courts throughout Wisconsin to western and eastern district federal court in Wisconsin and other federal district courts around the country. Mr. Carney is also admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court. Routine matters which they have handled include disputes involving commercial disputes, real estate, purchase contracts, estates, serious traffic violations, and various other types of cases, including family law.
Business/Corporate
Carney, Davies & Thorpe recognizes that the strength of our communities depends on the health of their businesses. We know that when business leaders are well-prepared and well-informed, their vision, energy and commitment form the community's foundation and their insight becomes the community's cornerstone.

Mediation/Arbitration
Carney, Davies & Thorpe offers mediation and arbitration services in a wide variety of areas of law. Jim Thorpe, consistent with his years of experience, has been involved in mediation and arbitration matters involving business, real estate, and employment law. Jim Carney's extensive civil litigation background has resulted in his involvement either as representing a party or acting as a mediator and/or arbitrator in large numbers of cases. His experience has ranged from cases valued in the thousands to millions of dollars. Because of the dual nature of his practice, both plaintiff and defense side of personal injury cases, he has been selected to act as a mediator and/or arbitrator in previous cases both by the plaintiff and the defense counsel. Mediation works well in family law cases, both in traditional and collaborative settings, and Ann Davies can be of assistance in this regard.
Labor and Employment Law
